Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum duration for the residential programme?
Typically a minimum of 3–4 weeks for meaningful outcomes. Most patients stay 6–12 weeks depending on severity. Duration is customised at the initial assessment based on your goals and clinical presentation.
Can family members stay with the patient?
Yes. ACNR has provision for one caregiver or family member to stay with residential patients. Family involvement is actively encouraged — family training and education is built into every programme so recovery continues at home.
How soon after a stroke or injury should rehabilitation begin?
As soon as medically stable — ideally within 24–48 hours of stroke. Early intensive rehabilitation has strong evidence for better long-term outcomes. For patients further from the acute event, meaningful recovery is still possible — the brain retains neuroplasticity throughout life.
Is improvement possible even years after a stroke or spinal cord injury?
Absolutely. We regularly achieve significant functional gains with patients who are 2, 5 or even 10+ years post-injury. High-intensity, technology-assisted rehabilitation drives neuroplastic change — many of our patients made gains after being told improvement was no longer possible.
What is the difference between daycare and residential clinically?
The therapy content and technology access are identical. Residential patients receive more daily therapy hours (4–6 vs 3–4), have 24-hour nursing oversight, and can have complex medical needs managed on-site. Residential is recommended for complex needs, patients from far away, or those needing maximum intensity.
Do you accept patients directly or only via referral?
We accept both self-referrals and professional referrals. Call our helpline, submit an online enquiry, or ask your neurologist to refer you. We conduct an initial telephone assessment to determine suitability and arrange a formal admission assessment.
