Common Questions

At what age can a child start physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy can begin from birth — neonatal physiotherapy is used in hospital NICUs for premature babies, and early intervention in the first year of life is extremely beneficial for children with neurological conditions or developmental delay. Earlier intervention generally leads to better outcomes.
Do I need a paediatrician's referral?
No referral is required to book a paediatric physiotherapy assessment at APARC. However, if your child has been seen by a paediatrician or developmental specialist, please bring any reports as these assist with planning.
Can I stay with my child during therapy?
Yes — parents and caregivers are encouraged to be present during paediatric physiotherapy sessions. This helps the child feel comfortable and allows parents to learn handling and home exercise techniques to continue between sessions.
Is home physiotherapy available for children?
Yes — home visits are available for children who find travel to a centre difficult. Therapy at home also allows the physiotherapist to assess and work within the child's natural environment, which can improve generalisation of skills.
