Treatment Approaches

Pain Education (PNE)Understanding how pain works — pain neuroscience education reduces fear-avoidance and helps patients engage confidently with rehabilitation.
Graded Exercise TherapyCarefully paced, progressive exercise to break the pain-inactivity cycle — improving fitness, strength and pain tolerance over time.
Shockwave & LaserFor chronic tendinopathy, myofascial pain and soft tissue conditions resistant to conventional treatment.
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)Non-invasive brain stimulation for chronic pain — modulating central sensitisation and cortical pain processing at ACNR and ShardaCare centres.
Dry Needling / IMSIntramuscular stimulation for myofascial trigger points and chronic regional pain — particularly effective for cervical, lumbar and shoulder pain.
Manual TherapyJoint mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue release and neural mobilisation techniques to restore movement and reduce pain.

Common Questions

Can physiotherapy help chronic pain that has not responded to other treatments?
Yes — physiotherapy is often most effective for chronic pain conditions that have not responded to medication or other treatments. A biopsychosocial approach — combining physical treatment with pain education and graded exercise — consistently shows better long-term outcomes for chronic pain than passive treatments alone.
Will exercise make my chronic pain worse?
It is common to fear that exercise will increase pain — but appropriately dosed and gradually progressed exercise is one of the most effective treatments for chronic pain. At APARC we start at a level that does not provoke significant pain and progress carefully, building your confidence and capacity over time.
How many sessions will I need for chronic pain?
Chronic pain treatment is typically a longer programme than acute conditions — most patients with chronic pain benefit from 8–16 sessions, combined with a structured home programme. The goal is not just short-term pain reduction but building sustainable self-management strategies.
