Treatment Approaches

Phase-Based ProtocolsAll post-surgical rehabilitation follows structured phase-based protocols aligned with tissue healing timeframes and surgeon guidelines.
Swelling & Pain ManagementManual lymphatic drainage, electrotherapy and graduated exercise to manage post-surgical swelling and pain in the early phases.
Range of Motion RecoveryProgressive passive and active range of motion exercises to restore joint movement following immobilisation and surgery.
Strength RehabilitationProgressive strengthening targeting the muscles most affected by surgery and immobilisation — isokinetic testing used at ACNR and ShardaCare centres.
HydrotherapyAquatic rehabilitation for early post-surgical patients — enabling movement and exercise before land-based weight-bearing is safe.
Anti-Gravity TreadmillGraduated walking and running at reduced body weight — bridging the gap between crutch-assisted walking and full weight-bearing ambulation.
Home PhysiotherapyFor patients unable to travel post-surgery — APARC physiotherapists visit you at home across Delhi NCR, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida and Pune.
Return to FunctionFunctional task training — stairs, transfers, driving, work duties and sport — with objective criteria marking readiness at each stage.

Common Questions

When should I start physiotherapy after surgery?
The timing depends on the procedure. For most joint replacements, physiotherapy begins within 24 hours of surgery in hospital. For ACL reconstruction, physiotherapy typically starts within the first week. Your surgeon's protocol guides the exact timing — your APARC physiotherapist will coordinate with your surgical team.
Can APARC physiotherapists come to me at home after surgery?
Yes — home physiotherapy is available across Delhi NCR, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida and Pune. This is particularly valuable in the first 2–4 weeks after joint replacement surgery when travel to a centre may be difficult. Call +91-9818911195 to arrange.
How long does post-surgical rehabilitation take?
It varies by procedure. Joint replacement rehabilitation typically runs 3–4 months for full functional recovery. ACL reconstruction requires 9–12 months. Spinal surgery varies from 6 weeks to several months depending on the procedure and complexity. Your physiotherapist will provide a realistic timeline at your initial assessment.
Do I need a referral from my surgeon?
A referral is not required, though having your surgical discharge summary or operative note is very helpful. If your surgeon has a preferred protocol, please bring this so your APARC physiotherapist can align treatment with the surgical team's guidelines.
